Recognize False Prophecy

If you want to learn how to recognize false prophecy by understanding true prophecy always turn you back to God.

“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Colossians 3:12-14 KJV)

The absolute thing you can do to recognize false prophecy is to turn to God. Ask His wisdom and guidance. False prophecies exist to contradict God’s teaching. When you are equipped with His word but still confused on what to believe in, the best thing you can do is to turn to God and leave it all to Him.

It is indeed a difficult task to determine false prophecies. God alone can unquestionably determine a true prophet or who has the potential to be one. He has called many of His people to be His disciples.

Now in our modern time, we come to encounter false prophecies. Determining a true prophet is a difficult task, so as determining a false one. It says in Deuteronomy 13:1-3, “If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse clearly explains how to determine a false prophet. If that prophet is defying what is written in the Scripture and not abiding by God’s will, then he is indeed a false prophet. You really need to know the Scripture very well. If not, you are bound to be deceived by the enemy. You will be misled and those prophecies clearly won’t do you any good.

A true prophet is a man of God. He obeys what’s written in the Bible. He never denies the scripture. He never opposes it. Deuteronomy 19:22 explains a sign that you need to look at to tell if a prophet is really a prophet of God: “When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.”

False prophecies are there for you to ask God for guidance. These prophecies should draw you closer to God for He knows what to do best. You need to meditate on the gospel more if you are being swayed by these prophecies. Do not fear prophets who are giving these false prophecies. Pray for them. They lack proper understanding of God. They haven’t established a relationship with Christ.
